Top Ten Backlist Books

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week's topic is Top Ten Backlist Books.

1. Significance (Significance, # 1) by Shelly Crane - To be honest, I started this one and I'm not dying to get back to it. I've had it in my possession for years though.
2. Brightest Kind of Darkness (Brightest Kind of Darkness, # 1) by PT Michelle - This one I've had for years too and even though it has good ratings on Goodreads, I don't know anyone who has read it.
3. Thorn Queen (Dark Swan, # 2) by Richelle Mead - I've got no excuse.
4. Ruin and Rising (The Grisha, # 3) by Leigh Bardugo - I loved the first book, the second book was only okay for me, and I'm not sure I'm excited for the direction things were heading. I started this book and read like 10% but it was such a slow start that I haven't come back to it.
5. Sempre: Redemption (Sempre, # 2) by JM Darhower - I devoured the first book. I have had this one for years. The only real thing stopping me for picking this one up is that so long has gone by since I read the first book that my interest has waned.
6. End of Days (Penryn and the End of Days, # 3) by Susan Ee - I started this one too. Actually made it about 30%. Put it down for various reasons and that 30% that I've read hasn't been enough to pull me back in. I'm feeling apathetic.
7. The Glittering Court (The Glittering Court, # 1) by Richelle Mead - I didn't like the direction this one was heading so I put it down. Even though I've had friends tell me that book 2 is so much better and even book 3, I'm just finding it hard to even think about coming back to this book.
8. The Becoming of Noah Shaw (The Shaw Confessions, # 1) by Michelle Hodkin - I quite liked Michelle Hodkin's writing style, but the way the Mara Dyer series ended just left me feeling a bit blah. I loved Noah, but something was just missing from that last book that's left me dreading starting this series.
9. Iron Gold (Red Rising, # 4) by Pierce Brown - Why haven't I read this yet? I'll tell you...these books are big investments. Not just length, but emotionally. I'll get to it, I promise. And when I do, I'm sure I'll be kicking myself for waiting so long.
10. Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass, # 6) by Sarah J Maas - I just need to break down and do it already. Part of the problem is that I have this on Holly's kindle that I've borrowed, but her Generation 1 kindle does not have a backlight which makes reading at night (the only real time I have to read) nearly impossible. Or at the very least, highly inconvenient.

Top Ten Book Villains

This post is all about those characters we love to hate. I had to cull through some of the books and series where the enemy was a group of people or the government so that I could choose the books that truly had individual characters as villains.

9. The Darkling from The Grisha by Leigh Bardugo (note, I still haven't finished Ruin and Rising)
10. Sauron from The Lord of the Rings by J R R Tolkien

There were so many villains to choose from. The hardest part was limiting myself and not including groups of people. Who made your list of top villains? Let me know!

Top Ten Series I Have Yet to Finish

As if hosting the 2015 Series Enders Reading Challenge isn’t enough motivation for me to finish all of these series that I’ve gotten started! But it’s just almost impossible. I love a good series. I’ve got roughly 65ish series started and not finished. I know. I keep up with it in a spreadsheet because I’m a nerd. Some of these are series where not all of the books have been published so I physically can’t finish them just yet. But some of them have been published for way too long. I’m going to focus on the series where I only have one book left to read in order to complete them.

Top Ten Sequels I Can't Wait To Read

1. Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle, # 3) by Maggie Stiefvater - I have this one in my possession, but I just haven't gotten around to reading it yet.
2. Ruin & Rising (The Grisha, # 3) by Leigh Bardugo - Holly has this one. I'm just waiting on her to get to it first.
3. The Retribution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, # 3) by Michelle Hodkin - I cannot wait to get my hands on this series finale!
4. Ruins (Partials, # 3) by Dan Wells - Have this one in my possession, but I've not had time to get it started yet either. Ugh!
5. Breaking the Rules (Pushing the Limits, # 1.5) by Katie McGarry - I'm a little torn because I don't want any conflict for Noah and Echo, but I LOVE Katie McGarry!
6. Opposition (Lux, # 5) by Jennifer L Armentrout - I want to get this finale read, but it keeps getting pushed down on my priority list. Also in my possession.
7. Rapture (Fallen, # 4) by Lauren Kate - Another series finale I need to finish.
8. The Ruby Circle (Bloodlines, # 6) by Richelle Mead - Cannot wait to get my hands on this series finale, but this is one series I'm going to be sad to see finish because I doubt we'll get another spin-off series. Yet I can't wait to see how it wraps up.
9. Finale (Hush, Hush, # 4) by Becca Fitzpatrick - Another finale I just need to get around to eventually.
10. This Shattered World (Starbound, # 2) by Aime Kaufman & Meagan Spooner - I'm a little nervous about this one, but I can't wait to jump in.
11. Out of Breath (Breathing, # 3) by Rebecca Donovan - I've been putting this one off because I've been told that there's a good bit of frustration in the beginning even though I've heard it ends in a good place.
12. Unrequited (Woodlands, # 4) by Jen Frederick - No cover yet for this one. Dying to return to the Woodlands series.
13. P.S. I Still Love You (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, # 1) by Jenny Han - Definitely excited about this sequel. Also no cover released yet.
14. The Heart of Betrayal (The Remnant Chronicles, # 2) by Mary E Pearson - The Kiss of Deception was such a pleasant surprise that I can't wait to continue the series.
15. That One Summer (Summer, # 3) by CJ Duggan - This series has been another pleasant surprise, and a breath of fresh air for me when I've been in a bit of a slump.
