Sunday Post - 48 & Stacking the Shelves - 21

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~this meme was inspired in part by ~ In My Mailbox~ It's a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

So this is like the only weekend in June that I didn't have plans. I spent it scanning old pictures for my mom. Wow did everyone look different back then. Skinnier for one. And it's amazing how much I can see different relatives in their younger faces. Anywho...also got some cleaning done since I won't have much time for that over the next couple of weekends.

THIS PAST WEEK:

Monday: Review of True by Erin McCarthy (4 Stars)

Tuesday: Top Ten Books Featuring Travel

Wednesday: Waiting on Angel of Mercy

Thursday: Review of Gameboard of the Gods (Age of X, # 1) by Richelle Mead (3 Stars)

UPCOMING THIS WEEK:

Monday: Review of The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, # 1) by Rick Yancey

Tuesday: Top 10 Beach Reads

Wednesday: Waiting on Wednesday

Thursday: Review of The Forever of Ella and Micha (The Secret, # 2) by Jessica Sorensen

Goodreads description--At sixteen Bay-Lee is not your typical girl. She doesn't even try to fit in at school. What's the point when she'll be moving to a new place within a few months? She's lived her whole life on the run, hiding from monsters.

Then a reaper uses her closet to cross over from the Spirit Realm. It has a message for her. Just when she's about to join her father at his school for hunters she finds out they are dying on their birthdays. Something is killing them, slipping past locked doors, never leaving a trace of evidence, and her birthday is only two months away.

Becoming a hunter isn't exactly her dream come true. She's doing it for her mother, for revenge, for justice. Nothing is going to get in her way, least of all love. Then she looks up into a pair of jungle green eyes and everything changes.

Delirium (Delirium, # 1)

Goodreads description--Ninety-five days, and then I’ll be safe.

I wonder whether the procedure will hurt.

I want to get it over with.

It’s hard to be patient.

It’s hard not to be afraid while I’m still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn’t touched me yet.

Still, I worry.

They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness.

The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don’t.

The Mysterious Howling (The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place, # 1)

By: Maryrose Wood

Published: March 1st 2010 by HarperCollins

267 pages

Genre: Childrens/Middle Grade, Mystery, Fantasy

Goodreads description--Found running wild in the forest of Ashton Place, the Incorrigibles are no ordinary children: Alexander, age ten or thereabouts, keeps his siblings in line with gentle nips; Cassiopeia, perhaps four or five, has a bark that is (usually) worse than her bite; and Beowulf, age somewhere-in-the-middle, is alarmingly adept at chasing squirrels.

Luckily, Miss Penelope Lumley is no ordinary governess. Only fifteen years old and a recent graduate of the Swanburne Academy for Poor Bright Females, Penelope embraces the challenge of her new position. Though she is eager to instruct the children in Latin verbs and the proper use of globes, first she must help them overcome their canine tendencies.

But mysteries abound at Ashton Place: Who are these three wild creatures, and how did they come to live in the vast forests of the estate? Why does Old Timothy, the coachman, lurk around every corner? Will Penelope be able to teach the Incorrigibles table manners and socially useful phrases in time for Lady Constance's holiday ball? And what on earth is a schottische?

Jane Eyre

By: Charlotte Bronte

Published: first published October 16th 1847

493 pages

Genre: Classics, Historical Fiction, Gothic, Romance

Goodreads description--Charlotte Brontë’s most beloved novel describes the passionate love between the courageous orphan Jane Eyre and the brilliant, brooding, and domineering Rochester.

The loneliness and cruelty of Jane’s childhood strengthens her natural independence and spirit, which prove invaluable when she takes a position as a governess at Thornfield Hall. But after she falls in love with her sardonic employer, her discovery of his terrible secret forces her to make a heart-wrenching choice. Ever since its publication in 1847, Jane Eyre has enthralled every kind of reader, from the most critical and cultivated to the youngest and most unabashedly romantic. It lives as one of the great triumphs of storytelling and as a moving and unforgettable portrayal of a woman's quest for self-respect.

That's it for my shelves and recaps of my past and upcoming week. What did you add to your shelves this week? Any bookish news you want to talk about? Let me know!

  21. I'm downloading the SYNC books too -- it's a great opportunity to try some new and classic audiobooks. Looking over old photos can be fun, too, but so frustrating when you know it's a family member but there's no indication of whom. It's good to get them scanned; I've done that with some of ours, too.

Enjoy your books, have a great week, and thanks for stopping by earlier!
