Sunday Post - 98 & Stacking the Shelves - 64

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~this meme was inspired in part by ~ In My Mailbox~ It's a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

This was a good week. Saturday, we went to Mobile (Alabama) for a family reunion. It was my paternal grandmother's side of the family. She was one of 13 siblings and apparently 50 years ago was the last time all 13 siblings were alive and together. Only 5 of the siblings remain, but their children, grandchildren, etc made the trip. It was probably the best family reunion I've ever been to. Also, tomorrow is Memorial Day for the US. I'm stoked to have an extra day off work. Oh and Armchair BEA 2014 starts tomorrow.

Goodreads description--Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas's plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars on the planet is sure to be a wild ride.

Goodreads description--Graceling meets Beauty and the Beast in this sweeping fantasy about one girl's journey to fulfill her destiny and the monster who gets in her way-by stealing her heart.

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.

Goodreads description--One single mom. One chaotic family. One quirky stranger. One irresistible love story from the New York Times bestselling author of Me Before You

American audiences have fallen in love with Jojo Moyes. Ever since she debuted stateside, she has captivated readers and reviewers alike, and hit the New York Times bestseller list with the word-of-mouth sensation, Me Before You. Now, with One Plus One, she’s written another contemporary opposites-attract love story that reads like a modern-day Two for the Road.

Suppose your life sucks. A lot. Your husband has done a vanishing act, your teenage stepson is being bullied and your math whiz daughter has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you can’t afford to pay for. That’s Jess’s life in a nutshell—until an unexpected knight-in-shining-armor offers to rescue them. Only Jess’s knight turns out to be Geeky Ed, the obnoxious tech millionaire whose vacation home she happens to clean. But Ed has big problems of his own, and driving the dysfunctional family to the Math Olympiad feels like his first unselfish act in ages . . . maybe ever.

One Plus One is Jojo Moyes at her astounding best. You’ll laugh, you’ll weep, and when you flip the last page, you’ll want to start all over again.

Goodreads description--I’d do anything to keep my mother alive.

Anything, including ask Ian Kerr for help. I don’t know much about him, except that he has more money than some small countries. And he’s willing to spend it on me. Just one catch: there’s a string attached, and not just the one I feel pulling me into his arms and his bed. There’s also the plan for revenge he wants my help with.

Every time he says my name, it makes my body shiver and my heart stutter. I know he’s going to wreck me, know there won’t be anything left of me but lust and sensation by the time he’s done with me, but even though I can see the heartbreak coming towards me like a train, ready to crash into me, I can’t get out of the way. I want what he makes me feel. Want what he’s offering.

This may have started out as something to save my mother, but now…now it’s about what he makes me feel. I’m in danger of losing everything that’s important. Worse? Ian's whispered words and hot caresses are making me believe that's okay.

That's it for my shelves and recaps of my past and upcoming week. What did you add to your shelves this week? Any bookish news you want to talk about? Let me know!

  13. Wow, that sounds like a big family , great you are having a big reunion. My family is rather small. My husbands family is big (his parents have 12 and 6 siblings each), but they don't live anywhere near us (7 hours on the plane!).
I have seen Cruel Beauty on many blogs recently, but I haven't got it yet.
    Enjoy all your books.
Have a great week and Happy Reading.

Aww, family reunion! I've never been to one, but they sound so fun! And in Mobile! That's only an hour from where I live! (Though now I'm at school, so Tuscaloosa is farther away.) :)

  25. Haha...yes. It was one of the best family reunions I've ever been to. I didn't know most of the people there. My grandmother was one of thirteen siblings so that makes for an extremely big extended family. I did enjoy Lick better than I expected. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  26. I enjoyed them both! I'll be reviewing Losing Control on Monday. Thanks for commenting Brandlileigh!

  28. Oh no! That's the pits. I missed one of the books from the first week because I did something wrong, but it wasn't one I was dying to have anyway. Hopefully you can download all of the others. Thanks for stopping by and commenting Cindy!

  29. It was a huge reunion. Sounds like you guys have a big extended family too, but it stinks that they live so far away. Cruel Beauty was a free audio download from last week so that's probably why it was all over the place. Thanks for stopping by and commenting Peggy. Sorry I'm so late responding!

  30. Haha...that's exactly what I said. When I saw this one available for review I had to snag it! Thanks for stopping by and commenting Melissa!

  31. My friend Paula is almost finished with it and she's been hooked so far. The reunion was good because it was at my aunt and uncle's house, but 90% of the people there I don't know. Oh wow...yeah both of my parents grew up in Mobile. My dad in Saraland and my mom in Citronelle. So that's really cool! Is school out for the summer for you or are you taking classes this summer?

The Jojo Moyes one sounds interesting. That must have been quite a reunion for your grandmother, it's good she could go.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
