Sunday Post - 65 & Stacking the Shelves - 38

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~this meme was inspired in part by ~ In My Mailbox~ It's a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Guys this was a much better week than last week--emotionally anyway. Let's see...September ended, and October began. October is probably one of my favorite months. I just love this time of the year. Thursday was my dad's birthday. He turned 60. We haven't been able to do the family birthday celebration for him yet because he and my mom have left to go on vacation to Virginia. Fraterfest started Thursday also! While I really enjoyed this challenge last year, I think I've messed myself up a little this year. See what had happened was...I was reading the first book in a series before Fraterfest began. I didn't finish that book until Thursday (after Fraterfest technically began). And it was just so good that I immediately had to start finish the sequel also. But neither one of these books are paranormal or Halloweeny so...yeah...they don't really count toward the read-a-thon. Whoops! And I'm still in the mood to read more of the same. But as I type this (Saturday morning), I'm going to try to focus on my Fraterfest reading goals for the rest of the read-a-thon (which ends on the 8th). I think that's all...for now.

Oh and this week I met my Goodreads yearly goal of 104 books. I just love achieving goals and marking things off my lists.

THIS PAST WEEK:

Monday: Review of Crossing the Line (Pushing the Limits, # 1.5) by Katie McGarry (4 Stars)
Tuesday: September EOM Wrap Up & Top Ten Book Turn-Offs
Wednesday: Waiting on Rome (Marked Men, # 3) by Jay Crownover
Thursday: My first "All Things Halloween" review of the month: Review of Consume (The Clann, # 3) by Melissa Darnell (3 Stars) and My Fraterfest Goals.

UPCOMING THIS WEEK:

Monday: Review of Spellbinding by Maya Gold
Tuesday: Top Ten Most Disappointing Series Enders & Fraterfest Wrap Up Post (this one might ended up getting posted on Wednesday, we'll see)
Wednesday: Waiting on Wednesday
Thursday: Review of Witchstruck (The Tudor Witch Trilogy, # 1) by Victoria Lamb

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

Goodreads description--Kacey Cleary’s whole life imploded four years ago in a drunk-driving accident. Now she’s working hard to bury the pieces left behind—all but one. Her little sister, Livie. Kacey can swallow the constant disapproval from her born-again aunt Darla over her self-destructive lifestyle; she can stop herself from going kick-boxer crazy on Uncle Raymond when he loses the girls’ college funds at a blackjack table. She just needs to keep it together until Livie is no longer a minor, and then they can get the hell out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

But when Uncle Raymond slides into bed next to Livie one night, Kacey decides it’s time to run. Armed with two bus tickets and dreams of living near the coast, Kacey and Livie start their new lives in a Miami apartment complex, complete with a grumpy landlord, a pervert upstairs, and a neighbor with a stage name perfectly matched to her chosen “profession.” But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle all of them. What she can’t handle is Trent Emerson in apartment 1D.

Kacey doesn’t want to feel. She doesn’t. It’s safer that way. For everyone. But sexy Trent finds a way into her numb heart, reigniting her ability to love again. She starts to believe that maybe she can leave the past where it belongs and start over. Maybe she’s not beyond repair.

But Kacey isn’t the only one who’s broken. Seemingly perfect Trent has an unforgiveable past of his own; one that, when discovered, will shatter Kacey’s newly constructed life and send her back into suffocating darkness.

Goodreads description--Livie has always been the stable one of the two Cleary sisters, handling her parents' tragic death and Kacey's self-destructive phase with strength and maturity. But underneath that exterior is a little girl hanging onto the last words her father ever spoke to her. “Make me proud,” he had said. She promised she would...and she’s done her best over the past seven years with every choice, with every word, with every action.

Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant [jerk] who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fits Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?

As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows.

Goodreads description--YOU CAN BE A VII. IF YOU GIVE UP EVERYTHING.

For Kitty Doe, it seems like an easy choice. She can either spend her life as a III in misery, looked down upon by the higher ranks and forced to leave the people she loves, or she can become a VII and join the most powerful family in the country.

If she says yes, Kitty will be Masked—surgically transformed into Lila Hart, the Prime Minister's niece, who died under mysterious circumstances. As a member of the Hart family, she will be famous. She will be adored. And for the first time, she will matter.

There's only one catch. She must also stop the rebellion that Lila secretly fostered, the same one that got her killed …and one Kitty believes in. Goodreads description--In a world ravaged by mutation, a teenage girl must travel into the forbidden Savage Zone to recover lost artifacts or her father’s life is forfeit.

America has been ravaged by a war that has left the eastern half of the country riddled with mutation. Many of the people there exhibit varying degrees of animal traits. Even the plantlife has gone feral.

Crossing from west to east is supposed to be forbidden, but sometimes it’s necessary. Some enter the Savage Zone to provide humanitarian relief. Sixteen-year-old Lane’s father goes there to retrieve lost artifacts—he is a Fetch. It’s a dangerous life, but rewarding—until he’s caught.

Desperate to save her father, Lane agrees to complete his latest job. That means leaving behind her life of comfort and risking life and limb—and her very DNA—in the Savage Zone. But she’s not alone. In order to complete her objective, Lane strikes a deal with handsome, roguish Rafe. In exchange for his help as a guide, Lane is supposed to sneak him back west. But though Rafe doesn’t exhibit any signs of “manimal” mutation, he’s hardly civilized . . . and he may not be trustworthy.

Fraterfest Update

Caffeinated Book Reviewer

I figured I'd give an update on my Fraterfest progress. I started re-reading Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, # 4) by Richelle Mead which wasn't part of my goals, but sometimes you just have to roll with it. And I've also started Origin (Lux, # 4) by Jennifer L Armentrout. No books completed yet, but I'll get there.

That's it for my shelves and recaps of my past and upcoming week. What did you add to your shelves this week? Any bookish news you want to talk about? Let me know!
