Sunday Post - 55 & Stacking the Shelves - 28

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~this meme was inspired in part by ~ In My Mailbox~ It's a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

This was a super long week for me work wise. Slow.... The weekend finally rolled around, and Husband and I watched Beautfiul Creatures between Friday night and Saturday morning. I fell asleep about halfway through like I'm known to do, and Husband dutifully stopped the movie so we could pick it back up where I fell asleep. Such a sweetie. As far as the movie goes, I didn't love it. I thought overall it was a bit rushed and I HATED the faked Southern accents. Granted we Southern folk probably sound worse to non-Southern folk than we sound to ourselves, but sheesh those accents were bad. All I all, I just think Beautiful Creatures would have made a better TV show than movie. But I'm glad I finally got to see it.

Goodreads description--THE FALSE PRINCE is the thrilling first book in a brand-new trilogy filled with danger and deceit and hidden identities that will have readers rushing breathlessly to the end.

In a discontent kingdom, civil war is brewing. To unify the divided people, Conner, a nobleman of the court, devises a cunning plan to find an impersonator of the king's long-lost son and install him as a puppet prince. Four orphans are recruited to compete for the role, including a defiant boy named Sage. Sage knows that Conner's motives are more than questionable, yet his life balances on a sword's point -- he must be chosen to play the prince or he will certainly be killed. But Sage's rivals have their own agendas as well.

As Sage moves from a rundown orphanage to Conner's sumptuous palace, layer upon layer of treachery and deceit unfold, until finally, a truth is revealed that, in the end, may very well prove more dangerous than all of the lies taken together.

An extraordinary adventure filled with danger and action, lies and deadly truths that will have readers clinging to the edge of their seats.

I haven`t read much of paranormal books the past year so I can`t say much about those titles, but I`ve been very intrigued about Jessica Sorensen. I saw a lot of positive reviews of her first book :)

I still need to read The Raven Boys, it sounds amazing but I haven't been sure whether it's my thing or not.

I agree about the beautiful Creatures movie, I went with my Mom to the cinema and we both thought it was pretty mediocre.

  20. I totally agree with you about the Beautiful Creatures movie. It was subpar at best. I've really got to get to that Raven Boys series and I still have to read book 2 and 3 of the SHIVER series! Can you say "behind schedule"?!

  21. Yeah, just okay is about all I can give it. Thanks for stopping by!

  22. I'm trying to read more of the classics, and the sync audiobook downloads are totally helping out with that! Thanks for stopping by!

  23. I didn't love The Raven Boys, but I've loved all of Maggie Stiefvater's other work. One of them has to be my least favorite, right? Well I've heard that everything that was missing from The Raven Boys is back in The Dream Thieves, so I'm actually excited to start it! Thanks for stopping by!

  24. I've really enjoyed The Coincidence series. The False Prince is good so far--I'm listening to it on audio. And while I didn't love The Raven Boys, I've heard excellent things about book 2. Thanks for stopping by!

  25. Yes, I'm really enjoying it. I'm on part 6 out of 7 right now. :)

  28. I have to be honest and say I didn't love book 1. But I've loved all of Maggie Stiefvater's other work, and I've heard that everything that was missing from book 1 is made up for in book 2, so I'm excited to start it.

Yeah mediocre is as good as I can give Beautiful Creatures--then again, I didn't love those books anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Aw...sorry. Maybe you'll be able to snag a copy of it as it releases though! I was actually surprised I got approved for it! Happy reading!

  30. Yes, I'm a huge Maggie Stiefvater fan too. I didn't love book 1, but I've heard she makes up for it in book 2.

  31. I've said this a dozen times in reply to comments from today's posts. I didn't love book 1, but I've heard book 2, The Dream Thieves, makes up for it. I've loved all of Maggie Stiefvater's other work though.

  32. Yeah, they can't all be winners. Honestly I didn't love Beautiful Creatures as a book either. Thanks for stopping by!

  35. Oh boy! I really loved the Shiver series so you definitely need to bump those to the top of your list. I didn't love The Raven Boys but as I've enjoyed all of Maggie Stiefvater's other work and I've heard good things about The Dream Thieves, I'm still looking forward to reading it. Definitely subpar on Beautiful Creatures as a movie, but I can't say I'm truly surprised. Here's to hoping City of Bones and Catching Fire make me forget I wasted time watching it. :)
