I’ve read many blog posts where bloggers discuss how they’re giving up trying to keep up with other bloggers. They’re tired of stressing out over reading as much as other bloggers and doing a post each and every day. They’re tired of stressing out if they miss a post or don’t reply to every comment. And well, I always wondered how you get to that point. Some of the bloggers I saw talking about how they’re tired of trying to keep up with the “bigger bloggers” are bloggers that I would consider “bigger bloggers”….and I would always wonder “what are you complaining about?” Well that’s not really what this is. I haven’t really felt the need to keep up with other bloggers. BUT I have always been in competition with myself.
And that’s what I’m trying to get through my own head. If I don’t post every day, then I don’t post every day—not to keep up with everyone else, but not to put extra pressure on myself either. If I don’t read more books this year than I did last year, then that’s okay. If I don’t even reach my goal of books read this year, then that’s okay too. If I don’t reply to every comment, that’s okay. If I don’t visit “all the blogs”…my blog isn’t going to self-destruct. And neither am I. Don’t be confused, these are all things I WANT to do. I WANT to post as often as I can. I WANT to read more books each year. I WANT to reach my goals. I WANT to reply to every single comment ever left on my blog. I WANT to visit everyone who visits me and even the blogs that don’t have a clue who I am. But you guys have to understand that I need my sanity. Toward the end of 2013 this has physically affected me with the level of stress I’ve been putting on myself. No one else has been doing this to me. I’ve been doing it to myself. But I know you guys understand because most of you have been there, and those of you who haven’t will probably experience this at some point in your blogging lifetime.
So…let’s look back on what I did accomplish in 2013 and take a look at some realistic and less stressful goals for 2014.
2013 Goals:
1) Read 104 books (2 per week). I read roughly 145 books in 2013. They are listed at the bottom of this post—it’s possible I’m missing one or two. I tried to keep this straight in 4 different locations, but each location had a different number of books, so I know I’m probably off somewhere.
2) Re-read the Bible. Check. 2013 marks the 2nd year in a row that I’ve read through the Bible.
3) Read 6 classics. I read two: Jane Eyre & Pride and Prejudice (re-read).
4) Have 750 GFC Followers. Check.
5) Read 12 books that are currently on my TBR list but not in my possession. Check. They’re noted below.
6) Read a minimum of 5 books about witches &/or witchcraft. Check. Noted below.
7) Read 15 Sequels. Yeah…I kind of blew this one out of the water. All are noted below.
8) Re-read The Power of a Praying Woman by Stormie Omartian. I’m still working on this one. I should finish it soon. But I did re-read The Power of a Praying Wife.
9) Re-read Push by Chalene Johnson. Nope. I ended up letting a friend borrow this one.
10) Read The 4-Hour Body by Timothy Ferriss, Entreleadership by Dave Ramsey, The Power of Prayer to Change Your Marriage by Stormie Omartian, and One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. 2 out of 4. 11) Finish The Power of a Praying Church by Stormie Omartian. Check.
Non-blog related goals for 2013 were paying our mortgage to a specific amount, reaching my goal weight, taking a picture each day of the year, and a few others. We did reach our mortgage goal which was MAJOR. I didn’t reach my goal weight—ended up gaining since Halloween. And then while I have definitely taken more pictures this year than the last 3 years (which was ultimately the real goal here), I didn’t actually take a picture every day.
2014 Goals:
1) Re-read the Bible. This will make the 3rd year in a row that I’ve done this. I’d like to keep this up throughout the rest of my life. But for now I’m taking it one year at a time, one day at a time.
2) Continue with increased picture taking.
3) Read 104 books. Same number as last year because I don't want to stress out about this.
4) Read 10-15 Series Enders. See here for more specific goals for this challenge.
5) Relax. Force myself to relax. If I miss a post, relax. If I don’t review a book within the 30 days of publication date, relax. If I don’t respond to every comment, relax. If I don’t read 104 books, relax. If I don’t read 10 series enders, relax. If I miss a wrap up post, relax. Relax, relax, relax.
As always, Husband and I have a couple of more personal goals for real life that I’d rather not post about on here. But this year my focus is on SIMPLIFYING!
