Top Ten Villains

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This week's topic is Top Ten Villains.

1. Various Characters from A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R R Martin - I'm not sure there is anyone who does villains that are more complex that GRRM.
2. Voldemort from Harry Potter series by JK Rowling
3. King of Hybern from A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J Maas
4. Levana from Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
5. Various Characters from Red Rising by Pierce Brown (to name them would lead to spoilers)
6. President Snow from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
7. Warren from Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi - Because he's not a villain at all but he plays one oh so well.
8. Strigoi from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
9. David from Push by Claire Wallis - Because you can't help but root for him.
10. The Dent Family Jasper Dent by Barry Lyga - Because those folks are CRAZY!

Ten Characters I'd Never Want As Family

Top 10 Tuesday is a post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and this week's topic is Top Ten Freebie so I'm choosing Ten Characters I'd Never Want As Family.

Please know...these are all books that I enjoyed. Just not characters I'd want in my family.

1. The Starks from A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin - While I love the Starks their family seems a bit doomed. And talk about DRAMA!
2. The Dents from Jasper Dent by Barry Lyga - Jasper's family is so screwed up I can't even imagine being a part of it. Jasper has his fair share of issues due to his family, but it is amazing that he turned out as well as he did.
3. Stephanie Plum from Stephanie Plum by Janet Evanovich - Because she has a tendency to get things blown up.
4. Cadence from We Were Liars by E Lockhart - Because while it seems nice to own an entire island, I also don't want to burn alive.
5. Mara Dyer from Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin - Because Mara's a bit crazy and people around her tend to end up injured.
6. The Ushers from The Fall by Bethany Griffin - Because I don't want to be stuck living in that spooky house.
7. Landon from Easy by Tammara Webber - Because what family wants to endure such suffering and tragedy. Landon comes out on the other side of his trauma, but it isn't without difficulty for him to get there.
8. David from Push by Claire Wallis - Because hello serial killer.
9. Blue from The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater - Because even though her family is eccentric, I think I'd pull my hair out if they were my family. Always having my future predicted or cards read or death predicted. It's too much.
10. Emma from Emma by Jane Austen - Because if I were subjected to her constant meddling I'd really want to punch her.

I'm very picky about kids' names. While I love books and book characters, I just can't see naming one of my children after a book character. I really want my kids' names to have specific meanings. Nothing's wrong with naming your kids after book characters, but that's just not my jam. However, I think naming pets after book characters is a great idea. And you can bit a bit more fun and funky with pet names as well. What are your top character names? Let me know!

Update: It was brought to my attention by Holly that perhaps I should offer some clarification here. I interpreted the topic of naming a child AFTER a character as just that...naming a child based on a character...not just taking the name of a character and leaving the character behind. In actuality, I first saw the name "Ever" in a book. It wasn't a particularly good book in my opinion and the character was neither particularly spectacular nor particularly bad either. Regardless, I liked the name and kept it in my back pocket. When the time came, "Ever" became the first name of my daughter. But that was because her first name is paired with the middle name "Lael" which means "belonging to God" in Hebrew. Her name together (Ever Lael) means "always belonging to God". So while in some ways I did name my child BECAUSE of a character in a book, I didn't name her AFTER a character in a book because the book was so far removed from me and the reason why I loved the name and chose it for my daughter.

9. The Darkling from The Grisha by Leigh Bardugo (note, I still haven't finished Ruin and Rising)
10. Sauron from The Lord of the Rings by J R R Tolkien
