Sunday Post & Stacking the Shelves - 5/6/18

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~this meme was inspired in part by ~ In My Mailbox~ It's a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Another fast week. Baby Boy turned 6 months old on Monday. His first experience with food didn't go as expected. He cried for 30 minutes straight the first and second night trying it. I'm hoping that he just isn't a fan of sweet potatoes, and that we'll be able to find some different foods that he'll enjoy. The temperature has been in the 70s for most of the week. It's been great. We've been able to walk with it being warm enough not to worry about the wind bringing on a chill and cool enough not to worry about working up too much of a sweat. I plan to keep walking with the kids through the summer. And since it can get up to the high 90s almost every day then I'm enjoying this temperature while it lasts. Baby Boy and I had chiropractor appointments on Thursday and then Baby Boy's 6 month check up on Friday. My two new books were both freebies. I usually don't get freebies but I've read both of these authors before and enjoyed them so I hope to enjoy these too.

Goodreads description--A London officer goes undercover to expose a plot against the Crown

Dover, England, 1808: Officer Alexander Moore goes undercover as a gambling gentleman to expose a high-stakes plot against the king—and he’s a master of disguise, for Johanna Langley believes him to be quite the rogue. . .until she can no longer fight against his unrelenting charm.

All Johanna wants is to keep the family inn afloat, but when the rent and the hearth payment are due at the same time, where will she find the extra funds? If she doesn’t come up with the money, there will be nowhere to go other than the workhouse—where she’ll be separated from her ailing mother and ten-year-old brother.

Alex desperately wants to help Johanna, especially when she confides in him, but his mission—finding and bringing to justice a traitor to the crown—must come first, or they could all end up dead.

Goodreads description--“It is not just a ruby, as you say. It is large as a quail’s egg, still untouched and unpolished. And it is rumored to either bless or curse whomever possesses it.”

Camille Iverness can take care of herself. She’s done so since the day her mother abandoned the family and left Camille to run their shabby curiosity shop on Blinkett Street. But when a violent betrayal leaves her injured with no place to hide, Camille has no choice but to accept help from the mysterious stranger who came to her aid.

Jonathan Gilchrist never wanted to inherit Kettering Hall. As a second son, he was content working as a village apothecary. But when his brother’s death made him heir just as his father’s foolish decisions put the estate at risk, only the sale of a priceless possession—a ruby called the Bevoy—can save the family from ruin. But the gem has disappeared. And all trails lead to Iverness Curiosity Shop—and the beautiful shop girl who may or may not be the answer to his questions.

Curious circumstance throws them together, and an intricate dance of need and suspicion leads the couple from the seedy backwaters of London to the elite neighborhoods of the wealthy to the lush, green Surrey countryside—all in the pursuit of a blood-red gem that collectors will sacrifice anything to possess.

Caught at the intersection of blessings and curses, greed and deceit, two determined souls must unite to protect what they hold dear. But when a passion that shines far brighter than any gem is ignited, each will have to decide how much they are willing to risk for their future, love, and happiness.

That's it for my shelves and recaps of my past and upcoming week. What did you add to your shelves this week? Any bookish news you want to talk about? Let me know!

  1. I grabbed The Curiosity Keeper too. It sounded good and I love that cover. My son took time to adjust to real food. He really liked yogurt and bananas.

  2. I’d cry if I had to eat sweet potatoes, too. I don’t blame him for being upset :). Have a great week!

  3. I hope Baby Boy finds some foods he likes! I'm sure he will eventually. Enjoy that lovely weather! It was in the high 80s here for much of the week. I've been seeing a lot of memes from local friends about jumping from winter into summer, or only getting 1 day of spring. Fortunately, it cooled down into the low 70s over the weekend -- much more seasonal. :-) Have a great week and enjoy your new books!

  4. We are having great weather here, but the wind does continue to blow. As long as the sun shines and it stays warm, I am happy.

  5. Hope the little one adapts to solids soon. That can sometimes be a tough transition---he's not allowed to be a picky eater yet. :-)

  6. Oh yes so far Baby Boy has loved bananas. Too bad too much of them stop him up. He's adjusting so that he's not crying through every meal, but he's still not a fan of most veggies. Thanks for stopping by Laura!

  7. Haha. Too funny AJ! I'm actually not a big fan of sweet potatoes myself, but they're so healthy and supposedly a great first food. We haven't had them again after that initial couple of days starting food though. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  8. Yes so far he's a fan of fruits--bananas, apples, pears, okay with prunes which he needs to eat to keep him regular. We've had decent success with green beans and sweet peas, but carrots, sweet potatoes, and squash he was not a fan of. Thanks for stopping by and commenting Lark! Enjoy your nice weather no matter how brief it may be as well!

  10. He's doing some better. We've found some veggies he does pretty well with, although he still prefers fruit. My daughter was the opposite. She'd eat whatever veggie we put in front of her but gagged on fruits. Now she's a great eater and loves both fruits and veggies. Fingers crossed that if we just keep offering him a wide variety then he'll enjoy both fruits and veggies with time. Thanks for stopping by Nicole!
