Goodreads description--Between taking night classes for her MBA and her demanding day job at a cruise line, marketing manager Henley Evans barely has time for herself, let alone family, friends, or dating. But when she’s shortlisted for the promotion of her dreams, all her sacrifices finally seem worth it.

The only problem? Graeme Crawford-Collins, the remote social media manager and the bane of her existence, is also up for the position. Although they’ve never met in person, their epic email battles are the stuff of office legend.

Their boss tasks each of them with drafting a proposal on how to boost bookings in the Galápagos—best proposal wins the promotion. There’s just one catch: they have to go on a company cruise to the Galápagos Islands...together. But when the two meet on the ship, Henley is shocked to discover that the real Graeme is nothing like she imagined. As they explore the Islands together, she soon finds the line between loathing and liking thinner than a postcard.

With her career dreams in her sights and a growing attraction to the competition, Henley begins questioning her life choices. Because what’s the point of working all the time if you never actually live?

Goodreads description--From the beloved author of Tweet Cute comes Emma Lord's You Have a Match, a YA novel of family, friendship, romance and sisterhood…

When Abby signs up for a DNA service, it’s mainly to give her friend and secret love interest, Leo, a nudge. After all, she knows who she is already: Avid photographer. Injury-prone tree climber. Best friend to Leo and Connie…although ever since the B.E.I. (Big Embarrassing Incident) with Leo, things have been awkward on that front.

But she didn’t know she’s a younger sister.

When the DNA service reveals Abby has a secret sister, shimmery-haired Instagram star Savannah Tully, it’s hard to believe they’re from the same planet, never mind the same parents—especially considering Savannah, queen of green smoothies, is only a year and a half older than Abby herself.

The logical course of action? Meet up at summer camp (obviously) and figure out why Abby’s parents gave Savvy up for adoption. But there are complications: Savvy is a rigid rule-follower and total narc. Leo is the camp’s co-chef, putting Abby's growing feelings for him on blast. And her parents have a secret that threatens to unravel everything.

But part of life is showing up, leaning in, and learning to fit all your awkward pieces together. Because sometimes, the hardest things can also be the best ones.

Tweet Cute was one of my favorite reads of 2019 (released early 2020). I was so engrossed in the relationship and dynamics. So I have been stalking Emma Lord on Goodreads for any information to release for any upcoming books. When You Have a Match was listed, I was on it. The premise had me on the edge of my seat. DNA companies have become really popular and the idea of finding a full-blooded sibling is so interesting. Especially considering that Abby's parents are still together.

I honestly don't know where to start in describing this book and how I felt about it. I'll start with Abby and Leo. They're 2/3 of a best friend trio. There was an almost kiss and things have been awkward between them since. Abby tries to stuff her feelings but she just can't move on. Truthfully, I find this frustrating in real life, but I expect it in fiction. Abby and Leo are expecting to spend the summer apart, but end up at camp together and are forced into contact so frequently.

Abby and Savvy. Well first I need to address Savvy. She's an Instagram star who focuses on health and fitness. She's all about her image, on the internet and in real life. She was a bit stuck up at times. And I was frustrated to see that Emma Lord chose to make the sibling gay in this novel the same as in her debut. Abby and Savvy have a complicated situation to navigate and I felt like Emma Lord did so well in writing a of the twists and turns to their relationship. I teared up a few times through their journeys.

Favorite quotes:

-I never know what the right word is when it comes to my feelings about Leo— it’s equal parts hopeful and disappointed, these mismatched moments where I’m so certain he might want me too that are punctured in an instant by the ones where I’m sure he doesn’t.

-This is the person you are to me; these are the things I feel safe to tell you because of it.

I wasn't sure what the story was going to end up being between the parents and Savvy's adoption. I do think Emma Lord worked this in a way that I was okay with. I didn't attempt to poke at the story too much. But man it also kind of broke my heart at the same time.

You Have a Match was a good follow up novel to Emma Lord's debut, Tweet Cute. I think I loved Tweet Cute more, but You Have a Match was intense at moments and my heart hurt through multiple scenes. I felt like the decision with Savvy mimicking Eric (I think that was the brother's name) was a disappointment. But ultimately, I truly enjoyed this story. You Have a Match gets 4 Stars. Have you read You Have a Match? What did you think? Let me know!

Sunday Post & Stacking the Shelves - 01/03/21

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~this meme was inspired in part by ~ In My Mailbox~ It's a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Monday and Tuesday were mostly normal days. We were able to get outside and play because the weather was fairly nice. Wednesday I had a doctor's appointment. My mom came over to watch the kids while I was gone. All seems well so far. Baby Boy is already up to 7 pounds 9 ounces. He's a big one I tell you. And physically, I'm counting down the days until he's here. Emotionally, I'm trying to soak up these last little bit just having two kiddos and giving them as much love and attention as possible since I know things will be chaotic with a newborn. The weather was so nice Wednesday and we stayed outside as long as possible. Thursday we had some cloudy/rainy weather roll in, but we were still able to go out. And we even went for a walk, which is the first I've done in a while. Husband bought a few fireworks on his way home and shot them with the kids. They were so excited. We shoot fireworks at the 4th of July in honor of Husband's Dad so they've been asking for more fireworks. Friday, Husband was home from work, but it was a rainy day.

Goodreads description--Amid the violent last days of the glittering Russian court, a Russian princess on the run finds her heart where she least expects it.

1917, Petrograd. Fleeing the murderous flames of the Russian Revolution, princess Svetlana Dalsky hopes to find safety in Paris with her mother and sister. But the city is buckling under the weight of the Great War, and the Bolsheviks will not rest until they have erased every Russian aristocrat from memory.

Born the second son of a duke, the only title Wynn MacCallan cares for is that of surgeon. Putting his talents with a scalpel to good use in the hospitals in Paris, Wynn pushes the boundaries of medical science to give his patients the best care possible. While treating Svetlana for a minor injury, he is pulled into a world of decaying imperial glitter and underground Russian clubs where drink, culture, and questionable dealings collide on bubbles of vodka.

Out of money and options, Svetlana is forced into a marriage of convenience with Wynn, who will protect her and pay off her debts. It’s the right thing for a good man to do, but Wynn can’t help hoping the marriage will turn into one of true affection. As the Bolsheviks chase them to different corners of the earth, Wynn and Svetlana begin to see they will never be able to outrun the love they have for one another.

2020 EOY Wrap Up

At the end of every year and the beginning of the next, I go into contemplative mode. I think about the past year. What happened? What changed in my life? What were the big things that I accomplished? What did I spend my time doing or thinking about? And then I think about the upcoming one as well. What do I want to see happen? What do I want to change in my life? What big things do I want to accomplish? What do I want to spend my time doing and thinking about? What things about last year do I really want to see change in the upcoming one?

2020...oh 2020. I think most of us are in a similar situation. 2020 was just hard. All around. We started the year with a miscarriage. My 2nd. We went from being really excited to share the news to devestated pretty quickly. My mom retired at the end of January which was super exciting for us because it meant we'd be able to spend more time with her. And we quickly developed a routine of alternating weeks. One week she would come to our house on Thursdays, and the next week we would go to her house. March came and brought with it marriage struggles along with COVID-19. We were pretty strict about the initial stay at home order and realized Little Girl would not be going back to school. At first, I wasn't too bothered. We're natural homebodies, and it felt to me like just an extended summer vacation. May came and brought with it a surprise. I wasn't ready emotionally to start trying again for Baby # 3 even though we originally said we'd start trying again in May. We spent every day of the summer in the swimming pool. Both kids learned how to swim without assistance. On top of the water, under water, jumping off the diving board, diving for toys in the shallow end. They turned into fish. School started back, and we had to make the decision whether to keep them home or send them. Ultimately, we decided to send them. I think we handled the initial lockdown and summer fine, but we were reaching the point where social isolation was beginning to have a toll on the kids. Fall came, and we relaxed a good bit. October was busy as usual with 3 out of our current 4 family members having birthdays. We started pondering the idea of adding on an additional bedroom to our house and by November we were taking specific steps to move forward. The end of November and beginning of December was full of appointments, stress, extra expenses, car trouble, and generally a lot more stress than normal. As December wrapped up, we're only a few short weeks away from adding our 5th member of the family and most of my time is spent focusing on preparing for that as well as soaking up what little time I have left with my older two kids, who are now 5 and 3, being a family of four. We're excited about 2021, but it's certain to bring with it joy and stress as well.

As for reading and blogging, I'm still doing the best I can. I exceeded or met all of my goals for 2020, but I imagine that 2021 will have it's struggles in this area. Having a new baby significantly cuts into my time to read or blog. So I'm reading when I get a chance and reviewing everything I can. I have continued DNF'ing the books that aren't connecting with me in 2020 because I've become more confident in my reading preferences. I have a limited amount of time to read, and so I'd prefer to be able to read books that I will enjoy. I'm past the point of forcing myself to keep reading a book that I'm not enjoying just so that I can say I finished it.
