Sunday Post - 263 & Stacking the Shelves - 159

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~this meme was inspired in part by ~ In My Mailbox~ It's a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Monday we were able to get out for a walk. It was overcast though and started sprinkling on us, but we didn't mind. Tuesday was grocery day. I also went to see and buy a used kitchen play set. I think it'll be a great present for Little Girl's birthday next month. Not much to report from Wednesday and Thursday. Friday we had another doctor appointment and ultrasound for Baby Boy. I cannot believe we're getting so close to meeting him. I mean it's September, and he's due at the end of next month. Saturday and today we spent some time at Husband's Mom's to see his sister and family. We're celebrating my niece's 17th birthday today. WOW! I've been in one of the worst book slumps I've had...ever. In August, I only read 2 books. One of those was a re-read and the other was the hand lettering book I reviewed on Friday. That hardly counts for reading. I just haven't been in the mood to read at all, and none of the books I've tried to start have hooked me yet. Well except for the two books I received this week and have already read. Hopefully that's a sign that I'm moving out of my slump. I've just had other things on the brain like nesting and getting the house ready for Baby Boy. And my heart has been breaking for the people in Texas. It really puts things into perspective for me. The things that I spend most of my time stressing over just aren't important in the grand scheme of things. Hug your loved ones a little tighter.

Goodreads description--Everyone knows Abby Turner is in love with her best friend, Cooper Wells. Including Cooper Wells. But despite what people tell her, it doesn’t affect their friendship. And she’s practically over it, anyway. What she really can’t get over is when her boss at the local museum tells her that her paintings lack heart.

Art is Abby’s passion and she hopes her future as well. She is determined to change his mind and earn her way into the upcoming exhibit at the gallery. So along with her family’s help, she compiles “The Heart List,” a series of soulstretching experiences that are sure to make her a deeper person and better artist in six weeks or less. When Cooper decides to complete the list along with her, she realizes this list is expanding her heart in more ways than one. Maybe she needs to start another project.

Love, Life, and the List is about a girl who, in an effort to bring more emotional depth to her art, compiles a list of soul-stretching experiences to complete with her best friend—a boy she also happens to be in love with.

This is the first in a set of three standalone books with crossover characters.

Goodreads description--England, 1860. An impoverished Victorian beauty is unexpectedly reunited with the now beastly earl who once broke her heart. Will they finally find their happily ever after? Or are some fairy-tale endings simply not meant to be?

A PROUD BEAUTY

Society beauty Sylvia Stafford is far too pragmatic to pine. When the tragic death of her gamester father leaves her destitute and alone, she finds work as a governess in a merchant's household in Cheapside. Isolated from the fashionable acquaintance of her youth, she resigns herself to lonely spinsterhood until a mysterious visitor convinces her to temporarily return to her former life--and her former love.

A SCARRED BEAST

Colonel Sebastian Conrad is no longer the dashing cavalry officer Sylvia fell in love with. Badly scarred during the Sepoy Rebellion, he has withdrawn to his estate in rural Hertfordshire where he lives in near complete seclusion. Brooding and tormented, he cares nothing for the earldom he has inherited--and even less for the faithless beauty who rejected him three years before.

AN UNEXPECTED REUNION

A week together in the isolated Victorian countryside is the last thing either of them ever wanted. But when fate intervenes to reunite them, will a beastly earl and an impoverished beauty finally find their happily ever after? Or are some fairy-tale endings simply not meant to be?

That's it for my shelves and recaps of my past and upcoming week. What did you add to your shelves this week? Any bookish news you want to talk about? Let me know!

  1. Reading slumps can be so frustrating! I hope you find some books that grab you soon. Meanwhile, it sounds like you've had plenty to do with getting ready for Baby Boy and taking care of Little Girl. Have a lovely week!

  3. I've read two books so far this month so I'm already doing just as good as August. :) HAHA! Problem is that I'm dying to read this book that I've requested on NetGalley, but I haven't gotten approved (or declined) yet and I can't get it out of my head so none of my other books are calling to me. :( But yes, I've got more than enough to do before the end of October. AH!!! I'm running out of time! :) Thanks for stopping by Lark!

  4. Well...ready and not ready at the same time. I'm a firm believer in you can never be fully prepared for a new baby. Happy to have them come of course but you can never fully prepare because you don't know their temperament yet. I'm with you...I love Kasie West. Even though this one doesn't publish for several months, I went ahead and read it because I knew she'd be good for my book slump. :) Hope you have a great week, and thanks for stopping by Alyssa!

  7. Thanks Avalinah! I've had some good reads since then, but there's something about being pregnant for me that just doesn't set the best mood for reading.
