Sunday Post - 104 & Stacking the Shelves - 70

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~this meme was inspired in part by ~ In My Mailbox~ It's a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Happy 4th of July weekend! We were off work on Friday and spent the entire day cleaning house and prepping for a birthday celebration on Saturday. The family came over to celebrate Holly's birthday (which is actually next week). We swam and even shot some fireworks since we live outside the city limits, but our neighbors totally out did us. I'm thankful to live in the neighborhood that we do because our neighbors tend to be pretty involved in holidays. We had a pretty great fireworks show all around. It was a really great weekend. Other than the Sync audio downloads, I didn't get any new books this week--which was much needed. I need to catch up on my TBR pile.

Goodreads description--Don't even think of starting this book unless you're sitting in a comfortable chair and have lots of time. A fast-paced, impossible-to-put-down adventure awaits as the young orphan Peter and his mates are dispatched to an island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They set sail aboard the Never Land, a ship carrying a precious and mysterious trunk in its cargo hold, and the journey quickly becomes fraught with excitement and danger.

Discover richly developed characters in the sweet but sophisticated Molly, the scary but familiar Black Stache, and the fearless Peter. Treacherous battles with pirates, foreboding thunderstorms at sea, and evocative writing immerses the reader in a story that slowly and finally reveals the secrets and mysteries of the beloved Peter Pan.

Goodreads description--Fiction. Young Adult Novel. Two-and-a half millennia after it was created, Homer's Odyssey remains one of humanity's most memorable adventure stories. In this re-creation of Homer's classic as a young adult novel, we see the aftermath of the Trojan War through the eyes of Alexi, a fifteen-year-old Trojan boy. Orphaned by the war and enslaved by Odysseus himself, Alexi has a very different view of the conquering heroes of legend. Despite a simmering anger towards his captors, Alexi gradually develops a grudging respect for them. As the Greeks fight off the angry Cicones, weather a storm that pushes them far beyond charted waters, and nearly succumb to the blandishments of the bewitching Lotus-eaters, he realizes that they are not the demons they were said to be, but people like himself. Gerard Doyle deftly brings this exciting adventure to life, making for a most satisfying listen. Doyle has won umpteen AudioFile Earphones Awards and in 2008 was named a Best Voice in Young Adult Fiction. He reads adult, young adult, and children's books as well as literary fiction, mysteries, humor, adventure, and lots of fantasy.

That's it for my shelves and recaps of my past and upcoming week. What did you add to your shelves this week? Any bookish news you want to talk about? Let me know!

  1. Sounds like you had a great 4th of July celebration. Things were quiet here--it rained on the 4th, but the rest of the weekend has been beautiful.

  3. Good week for you and glad you had a fun 4th/birthday celebration! We sat in our yard and watched as people somewhere near us shot off some fireworks sporadically (there was a county ban on them this year because of high risk of fire, but you know some always ignore the rules). Glad you are getting into your audiobooks--they look like fun. I used to watch a tv show based on Dave Barry's real life and he is a funny guy. Have fun in the upcoming week.

  7. Sounds like you had a great holiday! :) I know I really need the slower book weeks every once in a while or I really might drown under books.. I read Peter and the Starcatchers back when it came out, and I really remember nothing about it. I hope you have a great week!!

  9. It was a great weekend! I'm glad you guys were able to watch some fireworks even if they were banned this year. Of course like you said someone will always break the rules. I haven't heard of that TV show but it's good to know he's a funny guy. I love humor in books! Thanks for stopping by!

  13. It was a really great holiday! It was good to have a slow week. This week is already double the books of last week. :) HA! But I've also already finished two this week, so that helps! You not remembering anything about Peter and the Starcatchers doesn't make me feel great about it. But we'll see how it is--whenever I end up getting around to it.
