Sunday Post - 229 & Stacking the Shelves - 164

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer ~this meme was inspired in part by ~ In My Mailbox~ It's a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Monday and Tuesday Husband was off work. It was so nice to have him around the house with us. Monday night Little Girl spent the night with Husband's mother. So that's her 2nd night away from home that went successfully. I missed her even more this time I think. Probably because I knew she was just two houses down from us. The local news here predicted snow Friday and Saturday (I live in Central AL), and of course everyone freaked out. Since I'm at home during the day it didn't affect me at all. And of course, I didn't see so much as a snowflake. I almost have all the Christmas decorations up. This is unusual for me for them to be out so long, but only having nap times to work on it hinders me from making real progress.

Goodreads description--Gorgeously written and emotionally charged, The Secret History of Us explores the difficult journey of a teenage girl who must piece her life together after losing her memory in a near-fatal accident.

When Olivia awakes in a hospital bed following a car accident that almost took her life, she can’t remember the details about how she got there. She figures the fog is just a symptom of being in a week-long coma, but as time goes on, she realizes she’s lost more than just the last several days of her life—she’s lost her memory of the last four years. Gone is any recollection of starting or graduating high school; the prom; or her steady boyfriend Matt. Trying to figure out who she is feels impossible when everyone keeps telling her who she was.

As Liv tries to block out what her family and friends say about who she used to be, the one person she hasn’t heard enough from is Walker, the guy who saved her the night her car was knocked off that bridge into the bay below. Walker is the hardened boy who’s been keeping his distance—and the only person Olivia inexplicably feels herself with. With her feelings growing for Walker, tensions rising with Matt, and secrets she can’t help but feel are being kept from her, Olivia must find her place in a life she doesn’t remember living.

Goodreads description--What happens when you fall in love with someone everyone seems determined to fear?

Ninety seconds can change a life — not just daily routine, but who you are as a person. Gretchen Asher knows this, because that’s how long a stranger held her body to the ground. When a car sped toward them and Gretchen’s attacker told her to run, she recognized a surprising terror in his eyes. And now she doesn’t even recognize herself.

Ninety seconds can change a life — not just the place you live, but the person others think you are. Phoenix Flores-Flores knows this, because months after setting off toward the U.S. / Mexico border in search of safety for his brother, he finally walked out of detention. But Phoenix didn’t just trade a perilous barrio in El Salvador for a leafy suburb in Atlanta. He became that person — the one his new neighbors crossed the street to avoid.

Ninety seconds can change a life — so how will the ninety seconds of Gretchen and Phoenix’s first encounter change theirs?

Told in alternating first person points of view, The Radius of Us is a story of love, sacrifice, and the journey from victim to survivor. It offers an intimate glimpse into the causes and devastating impact of Latino gang violence, both in the U.S. and in Central America, and explores the risks that victims take when they try to start over. Most importantly, Marie Marquardt's The Radius of Us shows how people struggling to overcome trauma can find healing in love.

That's it for my shelves and recaps of my past and upcoming week. What did you add to your shelves this week? Any bookish news you want to talk about? Let me know!

  1. Oooh, I love the sound of The Secret of Us! I'm hoping to read more books featuring characters with disabilities and neurodiversities, and this looks perfect! I've always been intrigued by the link between memory and personality, how who you are can be based on what you've experienced - what you remember experiencing - and how you may change if you forget quite a long period of your life. I think it would make a really fascinating read! Added to my wishlist.

    Happy reading!

  2. I sort of would have been happy to not see snow. It was just not a good weekend for it lol.
Even at the age my kids are now, I still am sad when they or we are away. I always miss them :) I had all my decorations down the day before New years Eve. I LOVE Christmas but just need the house back to normal!

Have a great week Sandy! Happy Reading!

  6. The Secret History of Us sounds good!

I'm glad your daughter did okay on her sleepovers. I think it's a good idea for kids to get fairly independent from an early age. I know of people whose kids are in primary school and struggle to spend a night away from their parents and it means they can't go on school camps or anything.
