Top Ten Beginnings/Endings

Top 10 Tuesday is a post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and this week's topic is Top Ten Beginnings/Endings.

I couldn't choose between either beginnings or endings, so I did a top ten of both! HEHE! For the beginnings, these are books that either hooked me early or had major moments pretty close to the beginning. For the endings, these are the ones where something major happened or I was just left dying to start the next book.

Beginnings:

    1) New Moon (Twilight # 2) by Stephenie Meyer
    2) If I Stay (If I Stay, # 1) by Gayle Forman (review coming soon)
    3) The Dead-Tossed Waves (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, # 2) by Carrie Ryan
    4) Slammed (Slammed, # 1) by Colleen Hoover
    5) Divergent (Divergent, # 1) by Veronica Roth
    6) Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
    7) The Hunger Games (Hunger Games, # 1) by Suzanne Collins
    8) Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
    9) Breaking Dawn (Twilight, # 4) by Stephenie Meyer
    10) Graceling (Graceling Realm, # 1) by Kristin Cashore

Endings:

    1) Delirium (Delirium, # 1) by Lauren Oliver (review coming soon)
    2) The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
    3) Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
    4) A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, # 3) by George R R Martin
    5) City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, # 1)by Cassandra Clare (review coming soon)
    6) Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, # 3) by Richelle Mead (review coming soon)
    7) Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, # 4) by Richelle Mead
    8) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter, # 7) by JK Rowling
    9) The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, # 2) by Richelle Mead

  1. My emotions! Those lists are beautiful yet evil, making me relive all of those wonderful and heartbreaking stories!

If I Stay is a wonderful book but that beginning is so devastating, then there are all the flashbacks and... Gah, emotion overload! I cried but it still somehow left me with a smile on my face at the end. Although then I read The Fault in our Stars and that made me wonder how it was physically possible for a human being to cry so much in their entire live let alone over one single book.

Divergent, The Hunger Games, and Graceling all had great beginnings but I'm not sure what I liked more on those; the beginning, end, or just the whole story in general. Either way all three of those books made it onto my favorites list.

  4. I'm so happy to see another person with Harry Potter on the best list! I've been seeing on the worst lists and it's making me sad, lol. The Hunger Games, Divergent, and Slammed definitely had some great beginnings and the end of The Fault in Our Stars tore me open.

Great choices. I loved The Hunger Games, The Fault in Our Stars and Harry Potter (of course).

Here's my list. I've gone mostly for opening lines.

  9. Yes, I haven't gotten to post my review of If I Stay yet, but I really enjoyed that one much more than I was expecting to. I did cry in The Fault in Our Stars too. And you're right, Divergent, The Hunger Games, and Graceling all had good endings too, I just got sucked into the beginning of those so quickly that they had to make my beginning list! Thanks for stopping by!

  10. Um no. City of Bones had one of those endings where I was like "what the crap just happened? no way!!!!" And then I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep reading the series, but I just kept thinking to myself...surely not. :) HEHE! Thanks for stopping by!

  13. Oh yes, opening lines would have been a good pick. I don't know that I've highlighted too many opening lines in my reading...so that might be a hard top ten to pick for me, but I'm dying to see what you listed. Going to check out your list now!

  15. I totally agree on Slammed!! It's a wonderful beginning! How did I forget to add that? Gah, it's one of my favorites too! I haven't read many of the other books, but I'm sure I'll agree on those too once I read them! (:

  17. Good lists! I'm sorry I'm late in visiting -- it's been a crazily busy week.

I love the ending of Deathly Hallows -- both the ending and the epilogue, actually. The bit where Harry tells Albus that Snape was one of the bravest men he ever met never fails to make me cry.

  18. Yes I agree. Snape is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time.
