Goodreads description--The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Vampire Academy and Bloodline series returns with the second installment in her acclaimed Age of X series.

Gameboard of the Gods introduced religious investigator Justin March and Mae Koskinen, the beautiful supersoldier assigned to protect him. Together they have been charged with investigating reports of the supernatural and the return of the gods, both inside the Republic of United North America and out. With this highly classified knowledge comes a shocking revelation: Not only are the gods vying for human control, but the elect—special humans marked by the divine—are turning against one another in bloody fashion.

Their mission takes a new twist when they are assigned to a diplomatic delegation headed by Lucian Darling, Justin’s old friend and rival, going into Arcadia, the RUNA’s dangerous neighboring country. Here, in a society where women are commodities and religion is intertwined with government, Justin discovers powerful forces at work, even as he struggles to come to terms with his own reluctantly acquired deity.

Meanwhile, Mae—grudgingly posing as Justin’s concubine—has a secret mission of her own: finding the illegitimate niece her family smuggled away years ago. But with Justin and Mae resisting the resurgence of the gods in Arcadia, a reporter’s connection with someone close to Justin back home threatens to expose their mission—and with it the divine forces the government is determined to keep secret.

  9. This series is new to me! In fact, I actually haven't read anything by that author before lol. I know, I know - I keep getting hassled to read the Vampire Academy series.
Glad Richelle is constantly writing great series though! I'll have to add her stuff to my TBR, as her books always seem to have such a huge fan base.

  16. Yeah she is! She published about every 9 months in each series and she usually has at least two series going at once. She's awesome. I highly recommend the Bloodlines series if you enjoyed VA. Thanks for stopping by!

  20. Yeah, but I still did not know about the first book.
    But about Last Sacrifice...
I'm a huge fan of Adrian and I really can't help my bias. The ending shocked and disappointed me because of how poorly Richelle Mead dealt with him. I was pretty insulted. He may not be a major character, but he's still up there. But other than that, it was pretty good. Still had everything I loved about the VA series, just mistreated my favorite character :(

  21. Yes, I always liked Adrian, but I was a Dimirti fan from the beginning. I hate cheating so I wasn't a fan of how all of that went down, but I think Adrian's come out on the other side stronger because of what he went through with Rose. Makes his relationship with Sydney mean more I think. But yeah, I can see where you're coming from.

  22. It was because of Blood Promise and the cheating in Last Sacrifice that I really don't like Dimitri. But yes, I love his relationship with Sydney for that reason. I'm so glad he ended up with someone because he really is a great guy.
Crossing my fingers for the Bloodlines series.
